Mixtape Mondays | Awesome Covers vol.2

Back in November I've compiled a playlist called Awesome Covers. It was only the second post in this blog! And I thought back then I had a pretty thorough selection of the best covers Spotify had to offer... Almost two months later, I can tell with conviction, I've barely scratched the surface of what's out there!

So without further ado, please have a listen to this week's mixtape. From a James Bay version of Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You to a double bill of Hozier - playing Arctic Monkeys' Do I Wanna Know and Sam Smith's Lay Me Down. And talking about Hozier, Seafret takes Angel Of Small Death And The Codeine Scene and makes it their own. But no one has appropriated themselves of a song more than José González has done with Heartbeats. Can you even remember this is by The Knife?

We also have a series of classics: Gavin DeGraw plays Lennon's Jealous Guy beautifully, followed by the Black Keys soulful interpretation of Never Gonna Give You Up, originally recorded by American R&B singer Jerry Butler. Not far behind is Maverick Sabre distinctive voice singing A Change Is Gonna Come, released for the first time in 1964 by the King of Soul, Sam Cooke. And last, but not least, the combo of deep voice, stunning harmonica and raw guitar of Dan Owen playing Willie Dixon's Little Red Rooster.

If that's not enough, there is Glasvegas, The Killers, We Are Scientists, The Kooks, Lilly Allen and more playing from 80s classics to cheesy renditions of tunes such as Womanizer and Pumped Up Kicks.
